After receiving the Young Hollywood Rising Star Award at the 42nd annual Deauville American Film Festival, actress Chloë Grace Moretz spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about why she’s taking a break from acting and instead spending the next few months campaigning for Hillary Clinton. The young star also revealed some words of wisdom that the Democratic nominee shared with her and how she’s putting it to use in her everyday life.
Speaking about her Twitter feud with Kim Kardashian earlier this year, Chloë said, “I think I gave my attention to people that didn’t deserve my attention.”
She continued, “[Though] I don’t regret what I said… I realized that being the most opinionated and loud person in the room is not always the most impactful. I learned that from Hillary.”
The 19-year-old is of course addressing the war of words that she shared with Kim on social media after the reality star posted a nearly nude selfie on Instagram.
“‘It’s great to be feisty,’ those were [Clinton’s] exact words,” Chloë told THR. “But sometimes the smartest way to get into the psyche of people is to be the quietest person in the room. Let everyone else bicker and throw their words around and then you come in with the quiet voice and that will be the most impactful.”
In some ways, that advice also carries over to acting. Chloë has appeared in 55 films since she was 7 years old, but now she says she wants to be more selective about taking on new projects.
“I’m realizing that I can slow down,” she told THR. “I want to reassess who I am and find myself within my roles again.”
